IN HER WARDROBE

Fiona Kowalski is the warm, funny, super-stylish founder of children’s clothing label Printebebe (pronounced print baby) – an adorable collection printed smock dresses, blouses and bloomers.

Her career has seen her travel full-circle, starting out as a designer then moving into the role of fashion editor and stylist for many years in Hong Kong, New Zealand, London and Australia. It was the birth of her daughter Gidget (now 2) however, that inspired her move back into designing.

“I started Printebebe because I wanted to create affordable children’s clothing that was pretty and easy to wear. It has been fun, more hard work than I ever imagined, but so rewarding too”.

I would describe my style as…Classic with a twist.

The best (fashion) lesson I’ve learnt is…Buy your most expensive pieces in black – sure the purple shoes look amazing for the season, but when spending money black is the better investment.

My most recent fashion purchase is…An Ellery silk t-shirt in white (I already have the black).

I keep buying more….Bassike relaxed cotton pants, I am obsessed…8 pairs and counting!

I need more…Tan sandals – never enough. I am desperate for the natural tan version of my chocolate Chloe’s (not available anymore) and am trying to convince a friend to release hers to me!

Heels or flats? Flats, not always but definitely since having Gidget.

I wish I’d never bought…A cheap copy of a Lanvin dress in New York once. I regretted it instantly but they wouldn’t refund it. If you can’t afford the original, choose something else.

If I could only keep 3 things in my wardrobe, they would be…My Hermès leather cuffs, the YSL ‘Easy Y’ bag (for every day), and even though I hardly ever use it, my Chanel 255.

My favourite labels are…Dries Van Noten, Bassike, Lanvin, Zimmerman.

My favourite online shops arePrintebebe (of course!) Netaporter (for me) and anywhere that stocks Pom D’api, the perfect children’s sandal.

I always feel great when I wear…classic black and white.

Any outfit looks better with…one less thing than you think. I am forever taking something off.
