IN HER WARDROBE

Deb Sams

Wednesday 28th May 2014

Deb Sams is the co-founder and designer of that much loved Australian fashion label, bassike.

Over the years, I’ve snooped into the wardrobes of many a well-dressed woman and something that I’ve noticed time and time again is that regardless of their style, they all have at least a couple of pieces from bassike.

Why?

Because bassike manages to consistently create timeless, stylish staples we didn’t know that we needed, but that somehow make sense of everything else in our wardrobes.

And their reach is wide – now stocked in over 90 stores across the world, some of bassike’s more well known fans now include Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sofia Coppola, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Miranda Kerr and Sarah Jessica Parker to name but a few.

So with all this in mind, I figured it was time that I took a little peek into the wardrobe of Deb Sams.

Join me…

5 words to describe my style are… understated, polished, tailored,

relaxed and classic.

My go-to outfit is… a softly tailored, white lo-slung pant belted with a soft grey cashmere turtleneck knit or classic white tshirt.

On the top of my wish list is… the new Range Rover Sport.

The best (fashion) lesson I’ve learnt is… to keep it simple.

My most recent fashion purchase is… a Yohji Yamamoto gingham skirt
suit.

I keep buying more... clothes.

I need more… wardrobe space.

I wish I’d never bought… high heels – never worn, so impractical and
not suited to my lifestyle.

If I could only keep 3 things in my wardrobe, they would be… my
favourite white bassike t.shirt, celine hi tops and a Japanese kimono
jacket I bought on my first trip to japan twenty years ago.

My favourite label is... bassike, the original Jil Sander and Helmut Lang.

My favourite online shops are… I prefer the retail experience in the
flesh, but I regularly shop Farfetch.

I always feel happy when I wear… my anniversary ring – a white gold
pave diamond Cartier ‘Love’ ring.

Any outfit looks better with… individuality. Nothing looks better
than owning your own look.
