Thanks to the recent screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby’, Boaters (those stiff straw hats with a flat-topped crown and straight, narrow brim) have been experiencing a comeback.

They were originally designed in the 1800’s for dapper gents who chose to spend their summers by the river… but you may associate them more with holidays in Venice and that cute private school boy you used to follow obsessively throughout your senior year… but I digress.

The point is, they’re back.

Truth be told though, I wasn’t really feeling it – Boaters are a tad too ‘preppy’ for my liking… But then I saw this finer, all-black version… and now I’m starting to feeling a little nostalgic.
