If there’s one piece that I recommend everyone owns, it’s a pair of cropped, tailored black pants with a tapered ankle.

These cleverly cut go-tos are the most versatile piece in your wardrobe, looking equally good with a heel as they do with a flat sandal or some sneakers.

Their magic is in the way they’re cut a little roomier through the hips and thighs (with the essential cool/slouchy side pockets), but then gradually narrow down, finishing neatly just above the slimmest part of your ankle – a wonderfully flattering trick-of-the-eye… and lets be honest, who doesn’t love a clever trick?
