Louella Tuckey has the most fantastically unique sense of style that’s both spirited and contagiously creative.
One half of Australian furniture and interiors brand, Mark Tuckey (much loved for their custom made timber furniture in addition to a handsome curation of seating, homewares, lighting and artwork) it’s also worth mentioning at this point that Louella is HEAPS of fun to hang out with too.
We were lucky enough recently to spend a morning with Louella (and her handsome hound, Scribble) at the home she shares with husband Mark and daughters, Chilli and Indigo.
Like an enchanted curio box, their beachside home on the shores of Clareville Beach in Sydney, Australia so uniquely documents their lives together through art, furnishings and found objects.
For all the pics as well as Louella’s musing on wedge heels, poncho regret and the right time to wear sequins, follow the link below…
5 words to describe my style are… relaxed, casual, a little bit boho and above all, easy.
My go-to outfit is… a Bassike singlet (any one of the many colours in my wardrobe) with a bikini top underneath (I’m not a bra wearer, no boobs to speak of so a triangle bikini does the trick and means I’m always ready for a swim), a waistcoat, Bassike’s great big baggy drop-crotch pants in indigo from last year (or maybe year before?) and my K.Jacques leather sandals.
On the top of my wish list is… another Numero 10 bag.
Heels or flats? Flats every time, never heels. The occasional wedge if it’s fabulous and has an ankle strap (I have some Chloé wedges that I can barely walk in but oooohhhhhh they’re great).
The best (fashion) lesson I’ve learnt is… be comfortable with your choice and don’t dress for fashion, dress for you.
My most recent fashion purchase is… a beautiful off-white pinstripe tailored jacket from Bassike with oversized sleeves – LOVE it.
I keep buying more… bags, I have a thing for bags.
I need more… bags, of course! Who doesn’t?
I wish I’d never bought… this beautiful knitted poncho from Island Luxe in Bangalow – I love it, it wasn’t cheap and I’ve never worn it. It feels wrong every time I put it on and I seriously thought I’d live in it.
If I could only keep one things in my wardrobe, it would be… my Karen Walker velvet blazer that I bought for my dear friend 5 years ago. She only accepted the gift on the condition that I took it back one day.
My favourite labels are… Marithe et Francois Girgaud, Dries Van Noton, Virginie Castaway (best sequin jacket ever) and Antik Batik for boho colour.
I always feel happy when I wear… bare feet.
I wish I’d never got rid of… I can’t think of any major regrets – too busy to worry about what I don’t have anymore. Actually I lost a whole bag once when a taxi drove off with it in his boot. I wish I hadn’t lost that bag with all my favourite bits and pieces in it. Irreplaceable. Totes annoying.
Any outfit looks better with… a smile.
Is it better to be overdressed or underdressed? Underdressed definitely, but the occasional sparkle never hurt anyone (if worn with jeans).
Lipstick or gloss? Gloss every time.
Coffee or tea? Chai tea or rooibos. I’m no good with caffeine – head explosion!
I could happily live the rest of my life without seeing another… Isabel Marant wedge sneaker – is that what they’re called? I don’t get them AT ALL.
