As a fashion stylist, I’ve reviewed many, many (many) collections.
One of my favourite things (aside from the fashion, naturally) is asking the designer about the story behind their collection – the inspiration or narrative that most influenced their designs.
My top pick lately?
Petite Grand’s AW16 ‘MONA’ collection, inspired by representations of love, sex and death in the works at The Museum Of Old And New Art – a place of curiosities and strangeness of the best kind.
Referencing iconography of the ancient world, the collection translates universal concepts into objects of adornment – the heart represents both the pounding muscle beneath our ribs and romantic love; The skull, death and our own mortality, with pieces that are designed to hold memories, represent experiences and spark moments of wonder.
