    The Gold Button

    Monday 16th Dec 2013

Fashion has often taken inspiration from military uniforms – think bomber jackets, sailor pants, camouflage prints, epaulettes and cargo pockets. My favourite however would have to be the gold button.

Originally found on military dress-jackets, the gold button is like the CIA operative of fashion, working best on their own*

Once added to a tailored blazer, there is no need for further accessorisation with these chic little baubles. They do all the work.

*Too much? One too many Jason Bourne movies, maybe?

    The Statement Crystal Necklace

    Monday 25th Nov 2013

The statement necklace needs no explanation – it’s name pretty much says it all. They’re your fun, out-going little friends that can always be counted on to add some extra sparkle to your outfit.

And none comes more sparkly than the the statement crystal necklace.

Now you mustn’t be shy when it comes to these guys – they were never designed to be subtle. The amount of crystals works inversely with how serious you are feeling i.e more crystals = less serious.

Pile them on, layer them up and then team them with something less expected – think a grey marle sweat top, a loose white cotton singlet or maybe a black leather tee.

Ahhh… now that feels better, doesn’t it?

    Rosy Hues

    Wednesday 23rd Oct 2013

Pink is the new white (which was the new black). Are you still with me?

So often, upon finding out that I’m a fashion stylist, women will ask me:

“What should I be wearing this season?”

To which I generally reply with something like:

“It’s not that straight forward. Trends aren’t as a strict as they used to be. The internet has made people open to so many more influences such that at any time you could be wearing anything from checks to kaftans and still be ‘on trend’.

    But pink is big.

It’s the softer, dreamier shades that are getting the most traction though, so steer clear of the hot pink, fuchsia and candy hues. What you’re after is pieces in petal, blush, ballet, rose or shell  pink. Just insert this rosy hue where before you would have worn white and you’ve got it.

And what works best with all these pretty shades?  Why, the Le Dix Cartable S leather tote in black of course –  Alexander Wang’s first design since taking over the reins at Balenciaga.
